Magnificent greenish beige French ticking with white stripes. It is a dense French herringbone fabric called “Coutil” or “Toile à Matelas” from the first half of the 1900s. This textile was part of a mattress cover, we have recovered it for you. It is a medium weight cotton fabric. Beautiful herringbone fabric.

ROSARIO SAYS: “These beige and white tones, the herringbone and this type of stripes are very characteristic of French mattresses.

MEASUREMENTS
172 cm wide × 445 cm long (68" × 176" / 4.88 yards)

CONDITION
Good condition. Only light wear consistent with age and history but has no structural issues. Original color. Some minor scuffs and pin sized holes here and there. Many small hand-sewn mendings throughout the piece and three larger gorgeous repairs. It is a timeworn fabric, but very large and very usable! The mendings give it a beautiful old patina. Dense, but soft and moldable textile. This textile is ideal only for someone that is used to working with antique fabric and values the signs of time and use that are often inherent in these amazing French antiques. Not perfect but perfectly wonderful indeed!
