Beautiful and very old vintage mattress (ticking) fabric with beige and deep blue stripes. It is a European, cutí (from the French “coutil”) fabric from the early 1900s. This piece, recovered and freshly washed, was part of a mattress cover. It is a medium weight cotton fabric.
ROSARIO SAYS: “One of the oldest fabrics that we have recovered with a Plain Weave fabric. A collector's piece. Additionally, the mattress was made to contain vegetable filling, perhaps corn husks or horsehair. It retains the four large eyelets to put your hands in and remove the filling.
